FAQ

Q 1. Do I need a visa to come to Nepal?
Yes! Most of you will need a visa in your passport by the time you arrive in Nepal. (The major exception is for Indians.)
For more information about Nepal's visa requirements ask at your local consulate.

Q 2. What will the weather be like in Kathmandu?
August-September in Kathmandu is almost the end of rainy season. Average temperatures in August-September range from +15ºC to +25ºC during the day. However, it may rain occasionally. So, a rain coat or an umbrella will work.
Of course, if you want to go for a trekking higher up, you will need some warm clothes.

Q 3. What about my stay?
The cost of Accommodation during the meet is included in the registration fee.
However, it doesn’t cover the cost of accommodation if you stay longer than the program schedule.

Q 4. I'm not studying medicine, can I come?
Absolutely!
IPPNW has always been inclusive not only for the Health Science students but also all others interested in social issues. So, if you are interested in small arms disarmament and want to make a difference, you're very welcome at the conference, notwithstanding your field of study.

Q 5. I'm not from Asia, can I come?
Absolutely!
We believe the Conference is a great chance to discuss the issues affecting our region, but we will be more than happy to meet like-minded students to get to know each other and build friendships and networks both in the continent and around the world. So, come and join us!

Q 6. Can I arrive a few days before the Conference, or stay a few days after?
Absolutely! You may arrive before the Conference or stay as long as you wish after the Conference. However, please mention it in the respective section in the registration form.

Q 7. Do I need to bring anything special?
If there's something that you think is relevant to the theme or could be of interest for other participants, you may bring it along!

About Kathmandu

The city of temples…

The mythical melds with the modern…

The Capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu is really two cities: a fabled capital of convivial pilgrims and carved rose-brick temples, and a frenetic sprawl of modern towers. It simultaneously reeks of history and the encroaching wear and tear of the modern world.

August-September, the end of rainy season and the start of the dry season, is probably a good time of year to visit Kathmandu: the weather is balmy, the air is clean, visibility is good and the countryside is lush and green following the monsoon. So, you will be able to enjoy the picturesque view of green hills and snow-clad mountains.

Asian Students’ Meet

“A Call from Medical Community for Prevention of Small Arms Violence”

Physicians for Social Responsibility Nepal [PSRN] is a Nepalese affiliate of IPPNW. Since its inception PSRN has been working hand-in-hand with the mother organization to achieve the goals- world peace through disarmament, promotion of people’s health and human rights.
PSRN Student Chapter, the student affiliate of PSRN, works actively in harmony with the mother organization. Besides that we have been working on small projects designed on local necessities.
Small arms are detrimental to world peace, so IPPNW has put it in top priority under the project “Aiming for Prevention”. Across South Asia, people’s survival and health has been seriously challenged by ever burgeoning use of small arms. Nepal is not spared- incidences of small arms violence by different groups have increased in recent years. When allowed to go unabated, this will jeopardize numerous aspects of Nepali social fabric and bread a culture of perpetual violence which will inevitably engulf the generations to come. In this context genuine efforts towards mounting pressure from the citizens for a peace building process through controlling, not only violence but also the underlying ills that come courtesy of socio-political malfunction, is essential. To reflect the same sentiment in reality Student Chapter of PSRN organizes Asian Students’ Meet-A Call from Medical Community for the Prevention of Small Arms, to discuss the ways of solution. We want it to conduct as a joint programme of IPPNW and PSRN Student Chapter.
